Belarusian tennis player Aryna Sabalenka has appeared on the cover of the new issue of Time. “How Aryna Sabalenka Became the Most Compelling Player in Tennis” is the title of the magazine’s feature on the world No. 1.

Most of the article focuses on Sabalenka as a person and on her tennis. Politics gets just two paragraphs. In one of them, Sabalenka complains that Ukrainian coaches allegedly said “really, really, really mean stuff to me” after the start of the war.

Asked about the war in Ukraine, Sabalenka said she wants peace and does not support it.

“No one does,” she says. “It’s so obvious.”

She was also asked whether she supports Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko.

“I don’t want to talk about it,” she replies.
